Indonesia-Australia to enhance legal and security cooperation

Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Air Chief Marshal (ret) Hadi Tjahjanto met with the visiting Australian Minister of Home Affairs Clare O’Neil in Jakarta on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, discussing efforts to enhance bilateral legal and security cooperations.

“The visit of the Australian Minister of Home Affairs to Jakarta reflects our strong bilateral relations and the importance of Indonesia for Australia,” Hadi said.

The two ministers discussed development in global security and a number of Indonesia-Australia cooperation issues in the field of law enforcement and security, including counterterrorism, cyber security, and maritime security.

In addition, both the State dignitaries also discussed opportunities to strengthen collaboration on issues of interest to both countries, including the 10th Indonesia-Australia Ministerial Council Meeting (MCM) on Law and Security and the 5th Sub-Regional Meeting (SRM) on Counterterrorism and Transnational Security in 2024 in Indonesia.

“The MCM and SRM meetings are held regularly every year and are co-chaired by the Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs and the Australian Minister of Home Affairs to discuss several issues, including countering terrorism and transnational crime,” Hadi said.
