The Nusantara Capital City Authority invites companies from the United States to participate in developing green port and smart transportation projects in the future capital city (IKN).

Deputy Head of Green and Digital Transformation Division at the IKN Authority, Mohammed Ali Berawi, said that IKN is designed as a capital city that applies the concept of smart cities, based on green and sustainable principles. Therefore, infrastructure development as a critical sector will be carried out with these principles to help improve the city’s operational performance and the quality of life of its inhabitants.

“IKN will implement an intelligent transportation system (ITS) to improve efficiency and safety in mobility. The momentum of IKN’s development is a great opportunity for the development and mastery of ITS technology and innovative transportation modes, such as autonomous vehicles and advanced air mobility,” Ali said during a visit to the Port of Long Beach as part of the Smart City Reverse Trade Mission (RTM) activities in the United States as quoted from the official IKN website on Friday, May 3, 2024.

Furthermore, Ali stated that the IKN Authority aims to conduct trials in the smart transportation sector, including autonomous vehicles, autonomous rail transit, and advanced air mobility in July 2024. The IKN Authority also discussed with the Port of Long Beach, the City of Long Beach, Xtelligent, and TIG/m about the development of green ports and smart urban transportation systems.

The IKN Authority also invited Xteliigent and TIG/m to participate in transportation sector projects in IKN, particularly to conduct a proof of concept (PoC) in the city’s smart transportation sector.

“Proof of Concept is our strategy to ensure the best results in building IKN as a smart city. In selecting technology from various providers, we not only focus on cost optimization but also on technology quality and maturity, interoperability, value for money, and knowledge transfer,” Ali said.

U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) Director, Enoh T. Ebong, expressed his agency’s support for the development of IKN.

“The development of IKN is such an extraordinary job. However, Indonesia is doing it with dedication and the best commitment. Technology and urban panel activities like this are expected to support the success of Nusantara Capital City’s development, enabling the exchange of experiences and best practices in smart city development, and opening up cooperation opportunities in planning and implementation,” he said.

Noel Hacegaba, Deputy Executive Director, and Joel Perler, Economic Development Manager, of the Port of Long Beach, revealed that the port is leveraging technological advancements and strategic collaborations with various parties as part of their strategy to develop a green port.

“The application of technology, such as terminals we build without operators or autonomous terminals, aims to support the achievement of sustainable city development and achieve near-zero carbon emission targets by 2040,” Joel said.
