Indonesian Military (TNI) Spokesman Major General Hariyanto has confirmed that South Kalimantan will have its 10th Regional Military Command (Kodam) restored in 2025, awaiting the issuance of the Presidential Decree (Keppres) as the legal basis.

“It [Kodam restoration] has gone through the review and submission process to the Ministry of Defense. We just wait for the Presidential Decree as the basis for the establishment of the regional military command,” Hariyanto said as quoted on Sunday, December 1, 2024.

The restoration of the 10th Regional Military Command is part of the TNI’s grand plan to have 22 military commands throughout the archipelago as conveyed by TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto at the TNI-National Police (Polri) Leadership Meeting on February 28, 2024.

The South Kalimantan province previously had the 10th Military Command/Lambung Mangkurat in a period from 1958 until 1985. Following the TNI organizational rationalization program in 1985, the Kalimantan region only had one regional command, namely the Mulawarman Regional Command, which was then expanded into two regional commands in 2010. Currently, South Kalimantan is under the 6th Regional Military Command/Mulawarman.

Speaker of the South Kalimantan Provincial Legislative Council, Supian H.K., expressed his appreciation and full support for the plan to re-establish the 10th Regional Military command.

In shaa Allah [God willing], South Kalimantan will have a two-star general in 2025,” Supian said in Banjarmasin on Friday, November 29, 2024.

He also said that South Kalimantan will have a military regiment command (Korem), which is planned to be located in Tanah Bumbu Regency. With the re-establishment of the 10th Regional Military Command, the TNI hopes that strengthening defense affairs in the Kalimantan region can be better coordinated. This Military command is also expected to be able to answer security challenges amidst the dynamics of development and strategic threats in the region
