Indonesia President Prabowo Subianto held a bilateral meeting with China’s President Xi Jinping on Saturday, November 9, 2024, discussing efforts to strengthen bilateral relations.
In his introductory speech, Prabowo praised the meeting as an opportunity for both leaders to strengthen Indonesia-China relations that have been running for several centuries. The Indonesian president underlined that China is not only seen as a great power, but also as a great civilization that has long been intertwined with Indonesia.
“We have been living side by side for centuries and our culture and society have been in relationship for years,” Prabowo said.
In the meeting, Prabowo also expressed his commitment to increse bilateral relationship in order to develop welfare and stability in Asia. The Indonesian president believes that Indonesia-China relationship will create conducive
situation in Asia region.
During the meeting, Prabowo and Xi Jinping witnessed the signing of several cooperation agreements between Indonesia and China. The following are
the signed agreements:
- Protocol on Phytosanitary Requirements for Fresh Coconut Fruit Exports from Indonesia to China;
- Technical Working Guidelines for Promoting Sustainable Capture Fisheries;
- Memorandum of Understanding on Strengthening Blue Economy Cooperation;
- Memorandum of Understanding on Mineral Resources Cooperation;
- Memorandum of Understanding on Green Mineral Cooperation;
- Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in the Field of Water Resources; and
- Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in Conformity Assessment.
The agreements reflect the commitment of both countries to increase bilateral cooperation in various sectors.
