Labour party, workers’ unions and farmers have started their protest against the enactment of Law No. 6 of 2023 concerning Job Creation. President of the Labour Party Said Iqbal, said that there will be several measures that will be taken to reject the job creation law.
The first step is for the party and workers union to file a judicial review against the law for formal and material reviews. “The judicial review will be registered on April 2023,” Iqbal said on April 6, 2023.
Another step that will be taken by the party and its supporters is conducting a long march from Bandung to Jakarta, which is planned to take place on May 5 to May 12, 2023.
In addition, the Labour Party and its supporters will raise a petition to reject the Job Creation Law with around 1 million people targeted to sign the petition. “The petition will be sent to the Indonesian president and leaders of the House of Representatives,” he added.
Iqbal explained that his party will also engage in international and national campaigns. The worker unions will report to the Director General of the International Labour Organization concerning the job creation law and will also file a report to the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC).
At the same time, the party and workers union and its supporters will stage weekly national and regional protests starting on April 4, April 11, and April 17, 2023. On May 1, 2023, which is International Labour Day or May Day, the party will mobilize more than 500 thousand workers across Indonesia.
“Since April 4, we have staged a protest at the House of Representatives with more than 500 people. The demand is to reject Law No. 6/2023 concerning Job Creation,” said Iqbal.
In addition to rejecting the Job Creation Law, the protest also demanded the revoking of the Minister of Manpower Decree No. 5 of 2023, which allows businesses to cut labour wages by 25%.
