TNI prepares peacekeeping troops for possible deployment to Gaza
The Indonesian Military (TNI) is preparing personnel to join a peacekeeping mission that may be deployed to Gaza, Palestine, said TNI chief General Agus Subiyanto.
“For the peacekeeping contingent to Gaza, we are now in the selection phase. The plan is for it to be led by a three-star general,” Agus said at the Parliament Complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Monday, November 24, 2025.
He cited that the proposed peacekeeping force would consist of three composite brigades, each comprising a medical battalion, an engineering battalion, a support battalion, and a mechanical support unit.
“In addition, there will be an air component. We are preparing helicopters, C-130 Hercules cargo aircraft, and two hospital ships from the Navy, complete with the helicopters on board,” he added.
Agus said the selection process for troops designated for Gaza includes both physical and psychological evaluations. Once clear orders are issued, the TNI will first deploy an advance team to assess conditions on the ground.
This preparation follows President Prabowo Subianto’s statement expressing Indonesia’s readiness to deploy 20,000 peacekeepers to conflict zones such as Gaza, Ukraine, Sudan, and Libya.
“Indonesia is ready to deploy 20,000 or even more personnel to secure peace in Gaza or elsewhere ‒ in Ukraine, in Sudan, in Libya, wherever peace needs to be enforced,” Prabowo said during his address at the UN General Assembly in New York on September 23, 2025.
The president emphasized that Indonesia is already among the largest contributors of peacekeeping personnel to the United Nations and will continue to send troops to help maintain stability in conflict-affected regions worldwide.
