Danantara to partner with Bill Gates on health, education, clean water initiatives
CEO of the Investment Management Agency BPI Danantara, Rosan P. Roeslani, has announced that the agency will partner with Microsoft founder Bill Gates in key sectors of health, education, and water sanitation (WASH).
“This collaboration will focus on three areas as conveyed by the President: education, health, and WASH − water, sanitation, and hygiene,” Rosan said on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, the United States, on Tuesday, September 23, 2025.
According to Rosan, Danantara and Bill Gates will hold joint sessions until January 2026, after which concrete agreements will be finalized to advance initiatives in the three sectors.
Danantara Trust Fund will allocate an initial investment of US$100 million (Rp1.7 trillion) this year, dedicated to philanthropic programs in education, health, and clean water. Additionally, Danantara will earmark 1–2 percent of its annual dividends to sustain these initiatives.
“We are also open to collaborating with other partners. In principle, we have spoken with many philanthropic organizations, and we want to establish a philanthropic hub here in Indonesia,” Rosan said.
Separately, President Prabowo Subianto revealed that Bill Gates has provided health-related assistance to Indonesia valued between Rp7 trillion and Rp8 trillion (US$450–520 million).
Citing Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin, Prabowo added that the broader impact of Gates’ contributions could reach US$4.5 billion. The support includes funding for research, development of high-quality seed strains, medicines, and vaccines.
Prabowo praised Gates’ dedication to Indonesia and awarded him the Order of Distinguished Stars (Bintang Jasa Utama) in recognition of his contributions across multiple sectors.
“Bill Gates has shown extraordinary commitment to Indonesia, with invaluable support. His contributions are truly remarkable,” Prabowo said in New York on Tuesday, September 23, 2025.
