The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has strongly condemned Israel’s attack on Doha, Qatar, on September 9, 2025, calling it a severe breach of international law and a violation of Qatar's sovereignty.

The Ministry expressed grave concern over the escalating tensions in the region, warning that the attack poses a significant threat to both regional security and global peace.

"The attack further risks escalating and widening the conflict in the region," the Indonesian Foreign Ministry said in a series of tweets at its X account on Tuesday, September 9, 2025. "Indonesia condemns this aggression and repeats its calls on the United Nations Security Council to fulfill its mandate by taking immediate and decisive measures to halt Israel’s actions and ensure accountability."

Indonesia reaffirmed its solidarity with the Government and people of Qatar, emphasizing its commitment to supporting all diplomatic efforts aimed at achieving a just, comprehensive, and lasting peace in the Middle East, in line with the Two-State Solution.

The Indonesian government also reiterated its call for a diplomatic resolution to the ongoing tensions, urging international institutions to play a critical role in preventing further violence and advancing peace initiatives.

As reported by Jerusalem Post, Israeli forces launched an airstrike on residential buildings in Doha, Qatar, on September 9, 2025 targeting senior Hamas officials, including the group's leader Khalil al-Hayya. This attack has sparked widespread condemnation from Qatar and raised concerns over further regional instability.

According to Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) and its security agency Shin Bet, the operation was a response to the October 7, 2023, massacre in Israel, which left around 1,200 Israelis dead. The officials targeted in the strike were believed to be key figures in orchestrating this massacre and leading Hamas operations for years. However, while Khalil al-Hayya was reportedly a target, his death has yet to be confirmed.

In response to the attack, Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemned Israel’s actions, describing the assault as a "cowardly" strike on residential buildings housing several members of Hamas's political bureau. The ministry called the attack a violation of international law and a serious threat to the security of both Qatar’s citizens and residents.

"This criminal assault constitutes a blatant violation of all international laws and norms, and poses a serious threat to the security and safety of Qataris and residents in Qatar," Majed al-Ansari, spokesperson for Qatar’s Foreign Ministry, said.

The attack has also complicated diplomatic efforts in the region, particularly the mediation attempts Qatar had been involved in regarding the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict.

An official from Qatar stated that the attack undermined hopes for peace, further prolonging the war and complicating efforts to bring hostages back.

Israeli officials, however, maintained that the attack was a precise operation aimed solely at eliminating Hamas leaders with minimal collateral damage. They asserted that special measures were taken to avoid civilian casualties.

The operation reportedly had prior approval from the United States, which has maintained its alliance with Israel in the conflict. Following the attack, the U.S. Embassy in Doha issued a shelter-in-place order for all American citizens in the region.

This incident comes amid rising tensions between Israel and Hamas and has further strained Qatar's diplomatic relations, as it had previously played a key role in peace negotiations.

As of now, the international community remains divided over the attack, with calls for immediate de-escalation and the resumption of diplomatic efforts toward a ceasefire.
