Remains of the slain FM official Zetro Leonardo Purba arrives
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sugiono, welcomed the arrival of the remains of the late Zetro Leonardo Purba, an official from the Indonesian Embassy in Peru, who was tragically shot in the Peruvian capital of Lima on Monday, September 1, 2025.
Sugiono led the handover ceremony of the official‘s body from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to the family upon arrival at the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport on September 9, 2025.
In statement on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, the minister expressed deep condolences for the passing of Zetro Leonardo Purba and conveyed his high appreciation for the dedication and service he provided while representing Indonesia abroad.
The Indonesian government, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, continues to coordinate with the Peruvian authorities regarding the handling of the shooting incident, including ensuring security for staff at the Indonesian Embassy in Lima.
Before his funeral, the remains of Zetro will be laid to rest and receive a final tribute at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on September 11, 2025.
As previously reported, the foreign ministry has confirmed the death of Zetro, who was shot by an unidentified assailant on Tuesday, September 2, 2025.
"We are deeply saddened by the loss of our colleague, who was shot several hours ago in Lima and has passed away," Sugiono said in a video statement on Tuesday. "We have conveyed our condolences to Peru's Foreign Ministry and local police, urging a thorough investigation into this case."
He said he had personally spoken by phone with the victim’s wife, Priscilia, as well as Ambassador Ricky Suhendar in Lima.
Investigations into the shooting are ongoing in coordination with Peruvian authorities.
