Indonesia’s foreign ministry urges OIC to act against Israel’s Gaza annexation plan
The Indonesian Foreign Ministry has called on the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to take decisive action to stop Israel’s plan for permanent occupation and annexation of Gaza.
“No matter how long it takes and how many sacrifices must be made, Palestine will always remain the beating heart of this ummah,” Indonesian Deputy Foreign Minister Anis Matta said in his address at the Extraordinary Session of OIC Foreign Ministers in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on Monday, August 25, 2025.
The meeting was convened in response to Israel’s large-scale occupation plan in Palestine and efforts to annex Gaza.
Anis stressed that the vision of a “Greater Israel” represents an existential threat to the survival of all states in the region, underscoring the urgent need for unity and collective mechanisms among OIC members.
“The OIC must mobilize all its strength and resources to reject and stop Israel’s plan to fully occupy Gaza and expand settlements in the West Bank,” he asserted.
He further urged the OIC to work with international institutions to end the war and deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza through all possible channels.
The urgency of the meeting grew after the United Nations declared that Gaza had reached a state of total famine. “There is nothing more heinous than using hunger as a weapon of war and genocide against our brothers and sisters in Gaza,” Anis warned.
He noted a global shift in public opinion in favor of the Palestinian narrative and called on the OIC to seize the momentum to convince more countries to recognize Palestinian statehood. He also pressed for the UN Security Council to convene a special session to end Israel’s occupation of Gaza and the entire Palestinian territory.
The session in Jeddah was attended by representatives from 43 OIC member states, including 21 foreign ministers, among them was the Foreign Minister of Palestine. The meeting adopted a resolution strongly rejecting Israel’s annexation plan in Gaza, demanding the lifting of the humanitarian aid blockade, and urging countries and the United Nations to act against Israel’s actions.
Cooperation with Iraq
On the sidelines of the OIC event, Anis also held a bilateral talk with Iraq’s Foreign Minister to discuss opportunities for cooperation in economy, trade, investment, and tourism.
