FM Sugiono joins the rally, reaffirms support for Palestine
Indonesia Foreign Minister Sugiono reaffirmed the government’s unwavering commitment to the Palestinian cause during a mass rally held at Jakarta’s National Monument (Monas) on Sunday, August 3, 2025.
Speaking on behalf of President Prabowo Subianto’s administration, Minister Sugiono declared that Indonesia’s support for Palestinian independence is not merely rhetorical, but a constitutional mandate.
“President Prabowo has been clear from the beginning: Palestinian independence is part of Indonesia’s struggle. This is not just a speech − it’s a duty mandated by our 1945 Constitution. Indonesia will never accept any form of colonialism,” he told the crowd as quoted in a statement on Sunday.
Sugiono condemned acts of genocide, the use of starvation as a weapon, and the forced displacement of Palestinians, while emphasizing Indonesia’s dual-track approach of diplomacy and humanitarian aid.
“To date, Indonesia has delivered over 4,400 tons of logistical assistance. Soon, we will be sending 10,000 tons of rice for our brothers and sisters in Palestine,” he said.
In addition to humanitarian aid, Sugiono highlighted Indonesia’s active diplomatic efforts in international platforms such as ASEAN, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), and various multilateral forums.
“President Prabowo consistently voices support for Palestine on the global stage. As Foreign Minister, I am tasked with continuing that diplomacy with concrete action,” he said.
In closing, Sugiono assured the Palestinian people that they are not alone. “You are always remembered, fought for, and cared for by the people of Indonesia. We believe that every step we take together − with hope and unwavering resolve − brings us closer to our shared goal: an independent, sovereign, and peaceful Palestinian state.”
He ended his speech with a resonant cry of solidarity: “Merdeka! Merdeka!” (Freedom ! Freedom !)
