Australian PM Albanese arrives in Indonesia for official visit
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese arrived in Jakarta on Wednesday evening, marking the start of a three-day official visit to Indonesia scheduled until May 16, 2025.
Albanese landed at the Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base at 6:30 p.m. Jakarta time. He was welcomed by Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto, Foreign Minister Sugiono, Indonesian Ambassador to Australia Siswo Pramono, and Australian Ambassador to Indonesia Roderick Bruce Brazier.
The official agenda began on Thursday, May 15, 2025 with a state welcoming ceremony at the Merdeka Palace hosted by Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto.
“After the welcoming ceremony, President Prabowo and Prime Minister Albanese will hold a tête-à-tête meeting, followed by bilateral talks involving both delegations. The two leaders are then expected to deliver a joint press statement covering key discussion points from their meetings,” Yusuf Permana, Deputy for Protocol, Press, and Media Affairs at the Presidential Secretariat, said as quoted in a statement on Wednesday.
The visit underscores the strategic importance of Indonesia–Australia relations in the Indo-Pacific region. It also aims to further strengthen the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two neighboring countries.
President Macron’s visit
President Prabowo is also set to welcome French President Emmanuel Macron for a state visit scheduled for May 27 to 29, 2025. The visit marks a significant step in enhancing the strategic partnership between Indonesia and France.
Preparations for the high-level visit were discussed during a meeting between French Ambassador to Indonesia Fabien Penone and Indonesian Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya on Tuesday, May 13, 2025.
As one of the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council with veto power and the world’s seventh-largest economy, France is regarded as a strategic partner for Indonesia on numerous global and regional issues. President Macron’s upcoming visit underscores the commitment of both countries to enhance tangible cooperation in the face of global challenges.
President Prabowo and President Macron last met in a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Brazil in November 2024.
