President Prabowo Subianto has announced that Indonesia will prioritize the evacuation of Palestinian medical personnel and educators affected by the armed conflict in Gaza as part of a broader plan to temporarily bring 1,000 Palestinians to Indonesia for humanitarian assistance and recovery purposes.

The announcement was shared by People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) Speaker Ahmad Muzani after a meeting with President Prabowo at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Tuesday, April 29, 2025. Muzani said the meeting discussed Indonesia's role in supporting Palestinians displaced by the ongoing violence in Gaza.

“So when Palestine is declared free from war, they can return to their homeland to help rebuild its future,” Muzani said on Tuesday, April 29, 2025.

He emphasized the need to help Palestinian doctors and teachers heal from the trauma of war and enhance their professional skills so they can contribute meaningfully once peace is restored.

“Those suffering from war trauma − children, women − should recover quickly and be able to return to their homeland,” he said.

The meeting was also attended by Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, Miniser of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, and Cabinet Secretary Lieutenant Colonel Teddy Indra Wijaya.

Earlier, President Prabowo had announced that aircraft were being prepared to transport approximately 1,000 Palestinians as part of the first phase of evacuation. He made the statement during a press briefing before departing for the United Arab Emirates at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base in Jakarta on April 9, 2025.

“We estimate the number will be around one thousand people for the first phase,” the president said.

The President clarified that this assistance does not constitute permanent asylum. The evacuees will stay in Indonesia temporarily until they are physically and emotionally stable, and until the situation in Gaza allows them to return home.

“They will only be here temporarily, until they are healthy and well again, and when conditions in Gaza improve, they must return to their homeland,” Prabowo stressed.
