The Indonesian Air Force (TNI AU) commemorated its 79th Anniversary in a simple manner at its headquarters in Cilangkap, East Jakarta, on Wednesday, April 9, 2025.

Air Force Chief of Staff, Air Chief Marshal M. Tonny Harjono, said while addressing the anniversary commemoration that this year's event is more directed at increasing professionalism of Air Force personnel, the readiness of the main weapons system (alutsista), and the active role of the Indonesian Air Force in supporting national security, including in the food sector.

"The current global crisis has encouraged the TNI AU to take part in strengthening food security as part of a defense strategy that supports the national economy," he said.

Tonny cited food security is an important component in maintaining state sovereignty. “If the food sector is disrupted, it can trigger a crisis that has a direct impact on people's lives, including soaring prices of basic necessities,” he said.

The 79th anniversary of the Indonesian Air Force is also used as a momentum to get closer to the community.

"We want to be present not only to guard the Indonesian air space, but also to be among the people. We are strong because of the people, and we must continue to maintain the spirit of togetherness," Tonny said.

The 79th anniversary ceremony is the culmination of a series of activities that have been taking place since February 2025. They include social action, sports, community service, providing assistance in the Sukabumi and Tasikmalaya areas, joint prayers, and pilgrimages to the graves of heroes.

After the ceremony, the Indonesian Air Force held a simple thanksgiving at the headquarters’ Suharnoko Harbani Building. Here, Tonny emphasized that the age of 79 reflects the maturity of the organization in facing the challenges of the times. He emphasized the importance of the values of empathy and devotion in building a strong air force.

"This is not just a celebration, but a moment of introspection. Have we been close enough to the people? Have we been present as a solution?" he said.
