Indonesian Air Force Chief of Staff, Air Chief Marshal Mohamad Tonny Harjono  inspected on Monday, September 22, 2025 the construction of facilities to support the operations and maintenance of Rafale fighter jets at Roesmin Nurjadin Air Base in Pekanbaru, Riau Province.

The visit to the facilities was meant to ensure that the development of hangars, training centers, and aircraft maintenance areas is on track ahead of the arrival of the French-made 4.5-generation jet fighters.

Air Force spokesman Vice Marshal I Nyoman Suadnyana said the Air Force chief received a detailed briefing from Roesmin Nurjadin base commander Air Commodore Abdul Haris before touring several construction sites.

“Based on the inspection, all facilities are progressing as planned. We hope this infrastructure will fully support Rafale operations and strengthen national air defense capabilities,” Suadnyana said as quoted in a statement on Wednesday, September 24, 2025.

Indonesia is set to receive its first batch of three Rafale jets between February and March 2026, followed by another three in April. Deliveries will continue until all 42 aircraft ordered from France’s Dassault Aviation are completed.

Tonny said the Air Force is preparing both infrastructure and technical personnel to ensure smooth operations once the aircraft arrive. “We hope the Rafales can be deployed quickly to help secure Indonesian airspace,” he said in August 2025.

The Rafales will bolster Indonesia’s air fleet, which currently includes T-50 trainers, Hawk 100/200, Sukhoi Su-30, and F-16 fighters. The acquisition is part of Indonesia’s broader military modernization agenda.
