Observers question, seek clarity of continuing military unit expansion

Military observers have questioned and demanded clarity of the continuing military unit expansion, with latest plan being to establish five new Army battalions in Papua and five new Regional Military Commands (Kodam) across the country.

Prabowo Subianto Djojohadikusumo was born in Jakarta on the 17th of October 1951 to a distinguished family. Djojohadikusumo is the current Minister of Defence. His father, Prof. Dr Soemitro Djojohadikusumo was a famous Indonesian economist as well as the architect of the economic plan for the New Order. Soemitro was also a Minister of Trade and Industry and Minister of Finance during Soekarno’s era and a Minister of Trade and Minister of Research during Soeharto’s era. His grandfather, Margono Djojohadikusumo was one of the founders of Bank Negara Indonesia (BNI). He is the youngest of 4, and his brother, Hashim Sudjono Djojohadikusumo, is an Indonesian conglomerate. He was married to Siti Hediati Hariyadi, the daughter of Soeharto, Former President of Indonesia from 1983 to 1998. He is a father to his son, Ragowo Hediprasetyo as known as Didiet, who currently lives in Paris, France as a designer.

Major General of TNI Maruli Simanjuntak was born in Bandung, West Java in 1970. Simanjuntak is the Commander of Army Strategic Command of Indonesia or Panglima Komando Cadangan Strategis Angkatan Darat Indonesia (Pangkostrad). Simanjuntak studied in the Military Academy in 1992 as Special Forces Infantry and Detachment Tempur Cakra.

Luhut Binsar Panjaitan former Army General in the Indonesian Armed Forces

Luhut Pandjaitan is son to father Bonar Pandjaitan who became an executive at Caltex Petroleum Corp. and mother Siti Farida Naiborhu. Pandjaitan was born in North Sumatera, Toba Samosir, in Indonesia on 28th September 1947. Pandjaitan is now the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment. In his early days, Pandjaitan was taught by his mom to always be honest, study hard, and work hard. He moved to Riau Province when he was three years old because his father Bonar Pandjaitan worked in Caltex Petroleum Corp (now Chevron) and attended Yayasan Cendana Elementary School owned by Caltex and attended his junior high school in Pekanbaru. Pandjaitan is a keen swimmer and once represented Riau at the national sports event in 1962. But during his childhood's successive athletic experience, Pandjaitan likes to misbehave as he likes to fight, his parents sent him to a school in Bandung, West Java. Then, Pandjaitan attended SMAK 1 PENABUR High School in Bandung and met his future wife — Devi Simatupang. There in Bandung Luhut were the founders of Indonesian Student Action Front (KAPI) which protested against the Old Order, the President Soekarno, and the Communist Party of Indonesia. He then took a Masters degree in Public Administration abroad, at George Washington University, United States.

Andika Perkasa climbs the ladder to the top military position

Andika Perkasa was born in Bandung in1964. He is now the Commander of the Indonesian Military (TNI), a position he has held since November 2021. Andika is married to Diah Erwiany Trisnamurti Hendrati Hendropriyono, the daughter of the former Head of the State Intelligence Agency (BIN) Lt. Gen (ret.) Abdullah Mahmud Hendropriyono, and has a son named Alexander Akbar Wiratama Perkasa. Andika is the son of Sunarto and Udiati. Andika's father is an Army officer. Even though he was born in a Sundanese environment his family is from Blitar, East Java.
