Telkom subsidiary NeutraDC launches AI data center in Batam with 18MW capacity
Telkom’s subsidiary, NeutraDC, has inaugurated an artificial intelligence (AI)-focused data center named NeutraDC Nxera in the Kabil Integrated Industrial Estate, Batam with an installed capacity of 18 megawatts (MW).
NeutraDC Batam Senior Vice President, Indrama YM Purba, cited that the company plans to expand further. “In the first phase, each data center will have a capacity of 18 megawatts. We are planning to build three centers, so the total will reach 54 megawatts,” he said during the inauguration on Thursday, October 30, 2025.
“We’ll see if it can go up to 60 or even 100 megawatts,” he added.
Unlike traditional facilities that use air conditioning, the Batam AI data center employs liquid cooling technology. Citing Vertiv.com, liquid cooling works by circulating deionized water or dielectric fluids directly to CPUs or GPUs to absorb heat. Methods include direct-to-chip (D2C), immersion cooling, rear-door heat exchangers, and external heat transfer systems such as chillers or heat recovery units.
Indrama did not specify which liquid cooling method NeutraDC Nxera uses but noted that the GPUs at the facility consume 200–300 watts of power each. “We’ve designed our cooling systems, floors, racks, and mechanical-electrical systems to handle both the physical weight and heat load of high-power GPUs,” he said. “We’re strong enough in terms of live load capacity ‒ we’re anticipating the future.”
He emphasized Batam’s strategic location, being geographically close to Singapore, a major digital hub in Southeast Asia. “Mostly Indonesia’s gateways come from Batam and Singapore. So, it is very strategic,” he said.
Moreover, Batam lies outside the Pacific Ring of Fire, making it less prone to earthquakes and volcanic activity.
Telkom Indonesia President Director Dian Siswarini highlighted the project’s role in supporting Indonesia’s digital sovereignty. “As a state-owned company, Telkom is the most suitable institution to uphold Indonesia’s digital sovereignty,” she said, on Thursday, October 30, 2025. The Batam data center, she added, marks an important step in achieving that goal. “Initially, it will have 18 megawatts of capacity, and in the future, it could triple as we build three data center campuses.”
NeutraDC CEO Andreuw Th. AF said that the Batam data center is expected to begin operations in the first half of 2026. “We’re building this data center in Batam, mirrored with Singapore, and our sister company Telin will develop over seven new cable systems to integrate the ecosystem,” he said.
