Tax chief fires 26 employees, plans to dismiss 13 more in anti-corruption drive
Director General of Taxes at the Ministry of Finance, Bimo Wijayanto, revealed that he has dismissed 26 employees since taking office in May and plans to fire 13 more as part of an internal cleanup effort.
“We regret to report that we have already dismissed 26 employees, and today there are 13 more on my desk,” Bimo said during the launch of the Taxpayer Charter at the Jogja Expo Center (JEC), Yogyakarta, on Friday, October 3, 2025, as quoted by Antara.
He stressed that the dismissals were carried out without exception to preserve institutional integrity whenever fraud was proven.
“If even a single rupiah of fraud is committed by one of my staff, I will dismiss them. My phone is open for whistleblowers, and I guarantee their safety,” he said.
Bimo emphasized that the Directorate General of Taxes is committed to reforming itself to maintain public trust. Without trust, he warned, voluntary tax compliance would be difficult to achieve.
“Without voluntary compliance, the country’s effectiveness in collecting revenue will decline. Therefore, our main priority is to build and maintain taxpayer trust,” Bimo said.
Bimo was appointed Director General of Taxes in May, succeeding Suryo Utomo. According to his professional profile, Bimo previously served as Secretary to the Deputy for Economic and Investment Cooperation at the Coordinating Ministry for the Economy.
Before that, he was Assistant Deputy for Strategic Investment at the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment from September 2020 to December 2024. His experience in government office also includes serving as a Senior Expert Staff member at the Presidential Staff Office (KSP) between 2016 and 2020, where he worked under both the Deputy for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs and the Deputy for Strategic Socio-Cultural and Environmental Issues.
Earlier in his career, Bimo worked at the Ministry of Finance as a Senior Analyst at the Center for Tax Analysis (CTA) under the Directorate General of Taxes from 2014 to 2015.
