Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani Indrawati officially inaugurated a sweeping leadership reshuffle within the Ministry, announcing the formation of three new directorates aimed at strengthening Indonesia’s fiscal policy, financial sector stability, and financial intelligence capabilities.

Sri Mulyani introduced the newly established Directorate General of Economic and Fiscal Strategy, the Directorate General of Financial Sector Stability and Development, and the Agency for Financial Technology, Information and Intelligence.

“I want to remind you that the oath of office you just took is not a pledge to me, but to God the Almighty,” Sri Mulyani said in her remarks during the ceremony at the ministry’s headquarters in Jakarta, on Friday, May 23, 2025.

Febrio Nathan Kacaribu has been appointed to lead the Directorate General of Economic and Fiscal Strategy, which will be responsible for formulating effective and sustainable economic policies while ensuring fiscal stability amid global uncertainties.

Masyita Crystallin will head the Directorate General of Financial Sector Stability and Development, tasked with crafting financial sector policies, including those related to financial professions and international cooperation.

The newly formed Agency for Financial Technology, Information and Intelligence will be led by Suryo Utomo. This agency will oversee the integration and development of financial technology infrastructure, as well as data analysis and financial intelligence functions to support the ministry’s broader strategic objectives.

“The Ministry of Finance carries a tremendous mandate as the custodian and manager of the state’s finances. It is our duty to safeguard this republic’s financial integrity,” Sri continued.

The appointments, formalized through Presidential Decree No. 83/TPA/2025, reflect an organizational shift that Sri Mulyani described as vital to adapt to evolving global and domestic challenges.

Djaka’s appointment

In addition to the structural reforms, Sri Mulyani also swore in Lt. Gen. (ret.) Djaka Budhi Utama as the new Director General of Customs and Excise.

His appointment drew attention due to his recent military background, having served as a high-ranking officer in the Indonesian Army and most recently as the Principal Secretary of the State Intelligence Agency (BIN).

Coordinating Minister for Economic Airlangga Hartarto confirmed that Djaka has officially retired from military service, addressing any concerns regarding the transition.

“He’s already a retiree, so there’s no issue,” Airlangga stated after the ceremony.

“The customs office is a strategic gatekeeper for the movement of goods in and out of the country. Djaka’s leadership will be crucial, especially in ensuring better treatment for Indonesian migrant workers,” he added.
