The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) has dismissed Wahyudin Moridu, a member of the Gorontalo Provincial Legislative Council (DPRD), after a video of him making controversial remarks about “robbing state money” went viral.

“The individual in question has been clarified by the Gorontalo DPRD, and the PDI-P regional chapter (DPD) has submitted a report to the PDI-P executive board (DPP), requesting organizational action over his conduct,” PDI-P Honorary Council Chair Komarudin Watubun said in a statement posted on the party’s official Instagram account on Saturday, September 20, 2025.

Komarudin cited that the party’s ethics and disciplinary committee had recommended Wahyudin’s dismissal. The PDI-P executive board has since issued a letter of termination, and a replacement for Wahyudin in the Gorontalo DPRD will soon be carried out.

“I want to remind all party cadres, from Sabang to Merauke, to uphold discipline, ethics, the honor and dignity of the party, as well as that of their own families,” Komarudin said.

The controversy began when a one-minute, five-second video circulated online showing Wahyudin speaking with a woman inside a car near Djalaluddin Airport in Gorontalo. In the footage, when asked about their destination, Wahyudin replied that they were heading to Makassar “using state funds.”

He then stated, in a firm tone, that they were going to “rob state money” and spend it until the country became poor. Laughing, he also referred to the woman as his mistress, boasting that they would travel together to Makassar, South Sulawesi, with state money.

Toward the end of the video, Wahyudin identified himself by his full name and his position as a sitting member of the Gorontalo Provincial DPRD, claiming his term would last until 2031.

The clip quickly spread across social media platforms including TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, sparking widespread outrage and negative reactions from the public.
