House targets asset forfeiture bill intensive deliberation for 2025 legislative agenda
The House of Representatives (DPR) has included the Asset Forfeiture Bill in the 2025 National Legislation Program (Prolegnas), aiming to deliberate the bill in detail, although the timeline for its completion will depend on the specifics of the provisions included in the draft.
Bob Hasan, Chairman of the House's Legislative Body (Baleg), confirmed that public pressure has been a significant factor in the inclusion of this bill in the legislative agenda, particularly the push for more stringent actions against corruption.
One of the key elements of the bill would allow for the forfeiture of assets from convicted criminals, with a focus on corruption. However, there are discussions about extending the scope to include other extraordinary crimes, such as drug trafficking and terrorism.
"The bill is primarily aimed at confiscating assets from corrupt individuals, but there are also suggestions to include other serious crimes like narcotics trafficking and terrorism," Hasan spoke to Indonesia Business Post on Thursday, September 18, 2025 .
As for the government's stance, Hasan emphasized that there is strong support for the bill, reflecting the growing public demand for more effective anti-corruption measures.
While the exact timeline for the bill's passage remains unclear, stakeholders are hopeful that it could be enacted by the end of this year.
As reported by Antara News Agency, Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration, and Correctional Institutions, Yusril Ihza Mahendra, has said earlier that the government, in collaboration with the House, is committed to discussing the Asset Forfeiture Bill in the near future.
Yusril cited that the bill contains provisions for a special criminal procedural law, so it requires thorough discussion in accordance with the applicable criminal law regulations.
"The Asset Forfeiture Bill has been included in the 2025-2026 National Legislation Program Priority List," Yusril said during a meeting with the All-Indonesian Student Alliance (BEM SI) executives in Jakarta on Wednesday, September 17, 2025.
