President Prabowo Subianto presided on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, a second sequel of his Cabinet reshuffle, bringing in new faces and simultaneously rotating others to fill in vacant ministerial and high-ranking government posts.

Today’s reshuffle is a continuation of the incomplete cabinet reshuffle on September 8, 2025, which left several ministerial posts vacant as the president did not have figures in his pocket for replacement at that time as yet.

Two cabinet posts were filled up as Prabowo appointed retired Army general Djamari Chaniago as Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs, replacing Budi Gunawan, while Minister of State-owned Enterprises Erick Thohir was named Youth and Sports Minister, replacing Dito Ariotedjo. Both posts had been vacant since September 8, 2025.

Alongside the two high-profile appointments, Prabowo also named several new deputy ministers, reshaping the second echelon of his government. Afriansyah Noor, a Democratic Party politician and former deputy manpower minister in the previous government, was named deputy manpower minister, replacing Immanuel Ebenezer who was arrested in a graft case.

Gerindra politician Rohmat Marzuki was installed as deputy forestry minister, while National Awakening Party (PKB)cadre Farida Faricha was sworn in as deputy minister for cooperatives.

The reshuffle, however, extended beyond ministerial posts. Angga Raka Prabowo was promoted from deputy communications and digital minister to head of the newly established Government Communications Agency, replacing the Presidential Communications Office.

Political analyst M. Qodari, previously deputy chief of Presidential staff, was appointed Chief of Presidential Staff, succeeding AM Putranto.

Former deputy police chief General Ahmad Dofiri was appointed as special presidential adviser on security, public order and police reform.

In the National Nutrition Agency (BGN), Nanik S. Deyang and Sony Sanjaya were appointed deputy heads, while Sarah Sadiga, formerly with the National Public Procurement Agency (LKPP), became its new chairwoman.

The appointment of Erick Thohir as Youth and Sports Minister leaves his position as minister of state-owned enterprises temporarily vacant, with no official announcement yet from the Palace regarding his replacement.

“I was asked by the Cabinet Secretary to report to the President,” Erick said after the ceremony.

Djamari Chaniago, 76, brings a long military résumé to his new post. A 1971 graduate of the Armed Forces Academy (AKABRI), he served as Army Strategic Reserve Command (Kostrad) commander and West Java military chief before retiring in 2004 as Indonesian Military (TNI) Chief of General Staff.

Notably, he was one of seven generals in the Honorary Officers Council (DKP) that reviewed Prabowo’s role during the 1998 turmoil. Despite that history, the two have maintained close ties in recent years, with Djamari currently serving on the State Council of Titles, Medals and Honors.

The reshuffle underscores Prabowo’s effort to consolidate his coalition, which includes Gerindra, Democrat, and PKB, while tightening political control after weeks of cabinet vacancies and rising political speculation.

The inauguration ceremony at the State Palace was attended by senior political figures, including People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) Speaker Ahmad Muzani, House of Representatives (DPR) Speaker Puan Maharani, and several members of the Red-and-WhiteCabinet.
