Pertamina NRE seals deal with Dutch HyET group on renewable energy innovation
Renewable energy subholding of State oil and gas company Pertamina, Pertamina New & Renewable Energy (Pertamina NRE), has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Dutch company HyET Group, for the development of renewable energy (RE) in Indonesia through technological innovation.
The cooperation covers several areas, including the identification of opportunities for applying HyET’s technologies in Indonesia, development of pilot projects, knowledge transfer and capacity building, as well as the creation of commercialization pathways to speed up the adoption of renewable technologies.
“Renewable energy development requires technological innovation. With HyET’s expertise in RE technologies, we expect this strategic cooperation to enable knowledge transfer that will accelerate the energy transition,” Pertamina NRE CEO, John Anis, said as quoted in a statement on Tuesday, September 9, 2025.
The MoU signing took place between Anis and HyET Group CEO Rombout Swanborn on the sidelines of the Indonesia–Europe Business Forum held on September 2–9, 2025.
Pertamina NRE emphasized that partnerships with strategic global players are crucial to advance knowledge transfer, technology adoption, and human resource capacity. The company aims to collaborate with reputable partners with strong expertise and experience in renewable energy development − not only to benefit Pertamina NRE, but also to support Indonesia’s broader national energy transition.
In addition to renewable power generation, Pertamina NRE is currently developing low-emission hydrogen, bioethanol for biofuels, carbon businesses, and other low-carbon solutions.
HyET Group, based in the Netherlands, specializes in innovative technologies for renewable energy and hydrogen development, including advanced solar panels, energy-efficient electrolysis, lithium batteries, and blue and green hydrogen production technologies.
“We see Indonesia as a highly promising market for renewable energy development. By combining HyET’s technological expertise with Pertamina NRE’s capacity as a key regional player, we believe this cooperation will produce relevant, effective solutions and make a significant contribution to the energy transition not only in Indonesia, but also across Southeast Asia,” Swanborn said.
