President hosts meeting with interfaith leaders at palace
President Prabowo Subianto held a gathering with interfaith leaders and youth organizations at the State Palace in Jakarta on Monday, September 1, 2025.
A statement by the Presidential Press Bureau reveals that several prominent religious leaders attended the event, including Chairman of the Law-making body of Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) Miftachul Akhyar, NU Chairman Yahya Cholil Staquf, Muhammadiyah Chairman Muhadjir Effendy, Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) Chairman Anwar Iskandar, Communion of Churches in Indonesia (PGI) Chairman Jacklevyn Frits Manuputty, and Indonesian Bishops’ Conference (KWI) Chairman Antonius Subianto Bunjamin.
Also present were Parisada Hindu Dharma Indonesia Chairman Wisnu Bawa Tenaya, Indonesian Buddhist Representatives Association (PERMABUDHI) Chairman Philip K. Widjaja, and Chairman of the Supreme Council for the Confucian Religion in Indonesia (MATAKIN) Budi Santoso Tanuwibowo.
President Prabowo gave religious leaders the opportunity to voice their perspectives and aspirations on both national and global issues.
Representatives of nine interfaith youth organizations emphasized that the President had already responded to several of their hopes, ranging from the issue of freedom of worship to the commitment to expedite the ratification of the Asset Confiscation Bill.
Chairman of the Central Catholic Youth Organization, Stefanus Gusma, expressed his appreciation for the President's openness in listening to their aspirations.
"Beyond our expectations, several of our hopes, which we had previously conveyed to the President, have been responded to positively and very clearly… It turns out that the President has absorbed all the dynamics and aspirations of the community over the past few days," he said.
On the same occasion, Chairman of Ansor, NU’s Youth Wing, Adin Jauhradin, instructed all youth cadres to maintain public order and security.
He cited that this measure is crucial to accelerating the recovery of social and economic life in the community.
"Don't hesitate, as long as your aspirations are genuine, we will guard them. But if they damage all facilities, this will certainly be detrimental to all of us. So, take your maximum role and protect Indonesia," Adin said.
