The government has pledged to restore public facilities damaged in recent mass protests within six months at the latest, with Rp900 billion (US$58 million) allocated for nationwide recovery efforts, Public Works Minister Dody Hanggodo announced on Tuesday, September 2, 2025.

Speaking after inspecting the burned Pejompongan toll gate in Central Jakarta, Dody said repairs would follow three categories of damage: light, medium, and heavy.

“Minor repairs such as broken windows must be finished within a week, while medium damage may take three to four months. Severe cases could take up to six months,” he said.

Following President Prabowo Subianto’s directive, priority will be given to infrastructure directly affecting daily life, including toll roads, bus shelters, and government buildings. “This is an emergency response. We will focus on Jakarta first as the center of government,” Dody said.

The August 28–30, 2025 protests caused extensive damage across the capital. Seven inner-city toll gates, including Slipi 1 and 2, Senayan, Semanggi 1 and 2, Pejompongan, and Kuningan 1, were affected, six of which were burned.

Toll operator Jasa Marga estimated Rp80 billion in losses and said it had already begun repairs, aiming to restore operations by September 7. Mobile readers are being used to maintain traffic flow in the meantime.

Public transport facilities were also hit hard. Two major TransJakarta bus stops − Polda Metro Jaya and Senayan − suffered severe damages. Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung reported that 22 bus stops were damaged in total, with estimated losses of Rp41.6 billion, part of Rp55 billion in overall infrastructure damage across the city.

The Jakarta Health Agency reported one death and 469 injuries related to the protests, including 97 people hospitalized.

Despite the destruction, officials said swift recovery was key to restoring public confidence. “These facilities are vital for mobility and productivity. Quick rehabilitation will help stabilize both social and economic activity,” Dody said.
