President Prabowo Subianto convened a Cabinet meeting at the State Palace on Sunday, August 31, 2025, focusing on the country’s escalating security situation amid days of unrest in Jakarta and a number of cities across the country.

Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, speaking after the session, said the President had been in the capital city and closely monitoring developments across the nation and had issued firm instructions to security forces.

“The President emphasized the need for the National Police (Polri) and the Indonesian Military (TNI) to remain solid, to cooperate, and to work together in fulfilling their duties to secure peace and safety for the Indonesian people,” Sjafrie told a press conference at the palace on Sunday evening.

He was accompanied in the televised breaking news session by National Police chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, TNI chief General Agus Subianto and chiefs of the Army, the Navy and the Air Force, respectively.

Prabowo ordered General Agus Subiyanto and GeneralListyo Sigit Prabowo to take “measured but firm actions” against any violations of law, particularly acts of vandalism, looting, or destruction of public and private facilities.

“The President instructed them not to hesitate in taking decisive measures against criminal acts that disrupt law enforcement and public order,” Sjafrie said.

In addition, the State Intelligence Agency (BIN) was tasked with providing real-time updates on the ground situation to the President. “BIN has been ordered to closely monitor developments and immediately report any dynamics arising in the field,” Sjafrie added.

The Cabinet session, held under tight security, reflected growing concerns within the government after violent demonstrations in recent days led to casualties, property damage, and heightened political tension.

Prabowo, who has repeatedly warned of elements seeking to destabilize the nation, reiterated through his ministers that maintaining unity between the TNI and police was key to safeguarding national stability.

“The President underlined that TNI and police must remain solid and united in protecting Indonesia’s sovereignty and ensuring security for the people,” Sjafrie stressed.
