Abadi LNG pushed toward final investment decision as FEED nears completion
The Upstream Oil and Gas Regulatory Task Force (SKK Migas), is targeting the completion of the Front End Engineering Design (FEED) process for the INPEX Corporation-run Abadi LNG project offshore Arafura Sea, Maluku, this year.
The Abadi LNG project is a national strategic project (PSN) that was established in 2017. FEED itself is the process of reviewing and determining the specifications of the facilities that will produce and process hydrocarbons from the Abadi Gas Field, including the Onshore LNG Plant (OLNG).
"We are targeting completion this year (2025), in approximately three months. We can implement this FEED process within that timeframe," Head of SKK Migas, Djoko Siswanto, said on Thursday, August 28, 2025.
Currently, the Abadi Gas Field has substantial gas reserves, reaching 18.54 trillion cubic feet (TCF). The project will eventually be fully operational with a capacity of 9.5 million tons per annum (MTPA) of LNG pipeline gas, 150 million cubic meters per day (mmcfd), and condensate of around 35,000 barrels of oil per day.
However, Djoko also cited that this project is one of the most delayed projects. Therefore, the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Bahlil Lahadalia, has repeatedly warned him to expedite the process.
During the FEED implementation, SKK Migas will also conduct several tenders simultaneously to complete the necessary permits. The government will then ensure that all permits are completed by 2025 at the latest.
"Assuming all permits are completed as directed by the Minister, the tender process can run parallel, the FEED can be completed by the end of this year, and the Final Investment Decision (FID) is expected to be signed early next year," Djoko said.
