President orders food sector bureaucracy streamlined after Agrinas CEO resignation
President Prabowo Subianto has instructed the Special Development Control and Investigation Agency (Bappisus) to ensure that bureaucracy in the food sector is streamlined and not overly complicated following the resignation of Joao Angelo De Sousa Mota, President Director of PT Agrinas Pangan Nusantara.
“We have been given directives after discussing Agrinas,” Bappisus Head, Aris Marsudiyanto, told the media at the Presidential Palace on Tuesday, August 12, 2025.
Joao announced his resignation during a press conference on Monday, August 11, 2025 citing Danantara’s complex bureaucracy as the reason. He claimed that despite submitting multiple feasibility studies, Agrinas had yet to receive funding.
Aris acknowledged that domestic bureaucracy remains cumbersome but stressed that any streamlining should be carried out responsibly and in a measured manner. He also noted that Joao’s departure reflected differences in administrative culture between the government and corporate sectors.
“There is indeed an administrative process that must be followed, and patience is required. But he is a good and smart person − President Prabowo always seeks the nation’s best talents,” Aris said.
Joao previously said that Agrinas had gone without funding for six months, despite submitting feasibility studies three to four times to Danantara. He praised President Prabowo’s serious vision for developing Indonesia’s agriculture sector and accelerating food sovereignty, but argued that this vision was not fully supported by key aides.
“This lack of maximum support has prevented us from taking the concrete steps we had prepared, including securing budget allocations for Agrinas Pangan Nusantara,” Joao said.
He emphasized his commitment to national food security but expressed disappointment with Danantara’s performance, saying it had not provided adequate assistance.
“I feel ashamed and deeply responsible for what has happened over the past six months,” he added.
