President Prabowo Subianto conferred honorary four-star general ranks and prestigious Bintang Sakti medals to a number of prominent military figures in a ceremony held at the Army’s Special Forces’ Education and Training Center in Batujajar, West Bandung Regency, West Java, on Sunday, August 10, 2025.

The event involved personnel from all branches of the Indonesian Military (TNI) and was attended by senior military officers, cabinet members, and families of the honorees.

The honorary promotion is a formal recognition from the state for outstanding military achievements and leadership in critical operations, both domestic and overseas. Notably, current Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, who retired as a three-star lieutenant general, now holds the honorary rank of full general.

In addition to the honorary ranks, Prabowo also awarded the Bintang Sakti medal Indonesia’s highest military decoration for valor to two retired officers: LieutenantGeneral (ret) Muhammad Alfan Baharudin and Second Lieutenant (ret) Darius Bayani.

The Bintang Sakti is reserved for personnel who demonstrate exceptional bravery, gallantry, and extraordinary service in strategic combat or military operations.

The president personally pinned the insignia on the recipients in front of assembled troops, senior government officials, and the families of awardees.

The ceremony, the first of its kind under Prabowo’s administration, also served as a tribute to the sacrifices and dedication of Indonesian soldiers who have “made an enduring mark on the nation’s military history,” according to the Presidential Palace.

A total of 12 individuals received the title of Honorary General for what the government described as “exceptional service and contributions to the nation’s defense and security.”
