Officials of Golkar Party have dismissed speculations that an extraordinary national congress (Munaslub) being planned to replace Bahlil Lahadalia as the party’s chairman.

“There is absolutely no truth to it,” Golkar Party politician Dave Laksono spoke to Indonesia Business Post on Sunday, August 3, 2025, when asked about alleged internal party maneuvers to unseat Bahlil.

The rumors also included speculation that Nusron Wahid had been endorsed by President Prabowo Subianto to take over the party’s leadership. Dave dismissed the claims, calling them “baseless provocations aimed at sowing division.”

“These are issues meant to pit people against each other without any reason or factual foundation,” he said.

Responding to the speculations, Golkar senior member Indra Jaya Piliang clarified, “That’s just media propaganda,” firmly denying any official backing for Nusron Wahid from the president.

When asked whether the party remains unified under the current leadership, Piliang confirmed Golkar’s internal cohesion, stating, “Yes,” and emphasized that the party is still solid under Bahlil Lahadalia’s chairmanship with no significant internal unrest.

The clarification comes amid ongoing political maneuvering within Indonesian political parties ahead of upcoming leadership transitions.

As reported by RMOIL.id, storm clouds are gathering over the Golkar Party as 2025 draws to a close. Talks of a Munaslub have resurfaced, this time with a startling twist: the Presidential Palace is reportedly backing efforts to replace Golkar Chairman Bahlil Lahadalia.

The push for Munaslub is said to stem from growing dissatisfaction among party cadres over Bahlil’s leadership, which many perceive as being too closely aligned with former President Joko Widodo. That loyalty is now seen as a political liability, as Jokowi no longer holds office. Bahlil is also accused of turning Golkar into a "shadow supporter" of the former president, rather than adapting to the new political landscape under President Prabowo Subianto.

Further fueling discontent are a number of controversial decisions made during Bahlil’s tenure as Minister of Investment. These include his alleged involvement in a mining scandal in Raja Ampat, as well as a policy banning retailers from selling 3-kilogram LPG canisters − an unpopular move that has stirred unrest at the grassroots level.

Sources claim the Palace has already signaled its support for Nusron Wahid, a Golkar politician who currently serves as Minister of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/National Land Agency (BPN) Chief. Nusron was reportedly summoned to Hambalang to receive directives concerning the party’s leadership transition.

The Munaslub is expected to take place before the end of 2025, signaling a potentially dramatic shift in Golkar’s political orientation as the 2029 election cycle approaches.

As of Sunday, neither the Presidential Palace nor Golkar’s Central Executive Board (DPP) has issued an official statement regarding the Munaslub or the potential leadership change.
