Bengkulu governor questioned in Rp250 B mega mall corruption case
The Bengkulu Provincial Prosecutors’ Office has questioned Bengkulu Governor Helmi Hasan in connection with a corruption case involving the development of Bengkulu Mega Mall.
Helmi was questioned in his capacity as Mayor of Bengkulu from 2013 to 2023, as the case revolves around a major leak in the city’s local revenue (PAD), amounting to hundreds of billions of rupiah.
The interrogation took place at the Attorney General’s Office(AGO) in South Jakarta on Wednesday, July 30, 2025. According to AGO spokesman Anang Supriatna, although the session was held at the Attorney General’s Office, it was conducted by prosecutors from the Bengkulu Provincial Prosecutors’ Office.
“The person questioned was Bengkulu Governor Helmi Hasan,” Anang confirmed. He cited the examination was carried out in Jakarta since Helmi was in the city and agreed to appear for questioning.
This investigation is part of a broader probe into alleged corruption surrounding the Mega Mall and PTM (Modern Traditional Market) development, where state losses are estimated at Rp250 billion (US$15 million). The final figure is pending an official audit.
Previously, seven individuals were named suspects in the case, including:
● Ahmad Kanedi, former Mayor of Bengkulu (2007–2012) and former Regional Representative Council (DPD) member;
● Kurniadi Begawan (KB), President Director of PT Tigadi Lestari;
● Wahyu Laksono (WL), President Director of PT Dwisaha Selaras Abadi;
● Hariadi Benggawan (HB), Director at PT Trigadi Lestari;
● Satriadi Benggawan (SB), Commissioner at PT Trigadi Lestari;
● Chandra D. Putra (CDP), former official at the National Land Agency (BPN) Bengkulu City.
The case continues to develop as prosecutors investigate potential misuse of public assets and lease revenues associated with the commercial complex.
