U.S. firms committed over Rp370 T worth investment in RI’s clean energy, digital tech
Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Airlangga Hartarto, reveals that Indonesia has secured significant investment commitments from five major U.S. companies, covering sectors such as clean energy, digital technology, and healthcare.
Speaking during a media conference on Indonesia–U.S. Joint Statement in Jakarta on Thursday, July 24, 2025 Airlangga said the total value of these commitments reaches approximately US$22.7 billion (Rp371 trillion).
“The United States remains one of Indonesia’s main trading partners, accounting for 11.2 percent of exports. It also ranks among the top five foreign investors in 2024, with investments worth US$3.7 billion,” Airlangga said.
The investment breakdown is as follows:
● ExxonMobil plans to build a US$10 billion carbon capture and storage (CCS) facility;
● Oracle is exploring a US$6 billion investment to build a data center in Batam;
● Microsoft is set to invest US$ 1.7 billion in cloud infrastructure and AI;
● Amazon aims to enhance its AI and cloud development with an investment of US$5 billion.
● General Electric (GE), via GE Healthcare, will build Indonesia’s first CT scanner
production facility this year, valued at Rp178 billion.
Airlangga emphasized that these investments would help balance Indonesia’s trade and support job creation.
“This momentum is vital for sustaining our economic resilience and generating employment,” he noted.
As part of the broader trade agreement, the White House joint statement confirmed that Indonesia will eliminate around 99 percent of tariffs on U.S. industrial, food, and agricultural products. In return, the U.S. will reduce reciprocal tariffs on Indonesian goods to 19 percent, with further reductions possible on items not produced domestically in the U.S.
Airlangga also highlighted cooperation in R&D capacity building, especially in the digital economy, as a key element of the partnership. Improvements in logistics and inter-island connectivity are also part of Indonesia’s priorities, including potential aircraft procurement from Boeing to support cargo and passenger trade routes.
“This agreement goes beyond trade. It’s about enhancing Indonesia’s competitiveness and innovation ecosystem with long-term support from U.S. industries,” Airlangga concluded.
