President Prabowo’s Paris visit reinforces Indonesia–France strategic partnership
Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has concluded a state visit to France on July 13–15, 2025, at the invitation of French President Emmanuel Macron, underscoring the growing strategic partnership between the two countries.
The highlight of the visit was President Prabowo’s participation as guest of honor at the Bastille Day Military Parade on July 14, where Indonesia sent a joint contingent of 509 personnel from the Indonesian Military (TNI) and National Police (Polri). The contingent marched alongside the French Armed Forces and Police along the iconic Champs-Élysées, receiving wide appreciation from both the French government and public.
"Indonesia’s presence in the parade symbolizes the deepening strategic defense cooperation between Indonesia and France," the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement on Tuesday, July 15, 2025.
Following the parade, President Prabowo attended a private dinner hosted by President Macron at the Élysée Palace. The two leaders held discussions covering bilateral, regional, and multilateral issues, emphasizing shared interests in defense, economic collaboration, and cultural exchange.
On July 15, the Indonesia–France Business Breakfast Dialogue was held, bringing together government officials and business leaders from both countries. The event aimed to strengthen trade and investment ties and support each nation’s priority development agendas.
In a historic first, the Indonesia–France Strategic Cultural Dialogue was also held on the same day. The forum featured participation from Indonesia’s Minister of Culture, Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, and France’s Minister of Culture, highlighting a joint commitment to deepening cultural and creative industry collaboration.
This high-level visit marked a milestone in Indonesia–France relations, coinciding with the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two nations. It also served as a step toward implementing the “Joint Declaration Toward 2050: A Century of Diplomatic Relations,” signed in Jakarta on May 28, 2025.
“This visit reaffirms both countries' commitment to further deepen their strategic partnership in the decades to come,” the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirmed.
