President Prabowo Subianto and French President Emmanuel Macron have agreed to maintain strong bilateral economic and trade cooperation, a commitment made during a telephone conversation on Friday, April 4, 2025.

Prabowo assessed that the strategic cooperation between Indonesia and France not only reflects the national interests of each country, but also contributes to the stability and prosperity of the region and the world.

"In discussion with French President Emmanuel Macron, we agreed to continue to encourage inclusive and sustainable economic development for the welfare of the people," Prabowo said as quoted in a statement on Saturday, April 5, 2025.

He welcomed France's commitment to enhancing a strong and visionary bilateral partnership between the two countries.

"Let's strengthen synergy and build a future for mutual progress," Prabowo said.

Separately, President Macron revealed the content of his conversation with Prabowo on Friday, April 4, 2025, and said that it would be realized through a state visit to Indonesia at the end of May.

"We have decided to strengthen the relationship between our countries with ambitious and forward-looking projects. This historic approach that we are preparing will be realized in my state visit to Indonesia at the end of May,” Macron said on Friday, April 4, 2025.

Macron and Prabowo agreed to strengthen cooperation in the fields of defense, economy, science and culture and expand the scope of cooperation in the field of education.

Macron also mentioned several cooperations that are priorities for France and the European Union (EU) with Indonesia. The cooperation includes creating a resilient value chain, especially in the critical mineral metal sector and supporting the energy transition from fossil fuels to New and Renewable Energy (EBT).

Prabowo and Macron also emphasized their respective commitments to supporting the realization of peace in the Middle East and ending the war between Russia and Ukraine.

"We will work together in the preparation of the conference on Gaza which will be held in June," Macron said.

He added that the future between Indonesia and France is built through a strong partnership, open trade and a shared vision.
