Macron’s visit yields 21 strategic Indonesia-France agreements

French President Emmanuel Macron’s visit to Indonesia marked a historic milestone in bilateral relations, with the signing, showcasing, and announcement of 21 strategic agreements across various sectors. 

The ceremony, held at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta, was witnessed by Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and President Macron, signaling a robust commitment to deepening the Indonesia–France strategic partnership.

“The agreements span joint declarations, government-to-government (G-to-G), people-to-people (P-to-P), business-to-business (B-to-B), and central bank collaborations, following a bilateral meeting between the two leaders and their delegations,” the Office of the President said in a statement on Wednesday, May 28, 2025.

The two presidents adopted four joint declarations, reflecting a shared long-term vision and commitment to global peace and cultural cooperation:

* Joint Vision 2050 for Strategic Partnership Development;

* Joint Declaration on Cultural Strategy between Indonesia and France;

* Declaration on Peaceful Resolution for Palestine and Two-State Solution Implementation;

* Joint Statement by the Presidents of the Republic of Indonesia and the Republic of France.

Eleven official deliverables were signed, including 10 G-to-G and one P-to-P agreement, covering strategic areas such as:

* Diplomatic capacity building;

* Defense intelligence sharing and strategic cooperation;

* Sustainable agriculture;

* Critical minerals and metals;

* Sustainable forestry;

* Creative economy and culture;

* Disaster risk management; and

* Transportation development.

A unique P-to-P agreement was also signed to develop an equestrian sports ecosystem between Indonesian Equestrian Sports Association (Pordasi) and leading French institutions including IFCE, FFE, France Galop, and AFASEC.

Additionally, five key agreements were presented during the showing session:

* A nutrition partnership between Indonesia’s National Nutrition Agency (BGN) and Danone;

* A critical minerals collaboration involving Danantara, Indonesia Investment Authority (INA), and Eramet;

* A joint solar energy and battery storage investment by PT. RGE Indonesia and TotalEnergies;

* Yeast production facility expansion by PT Citra Bonang and Lesaffre to support food security;

* A green hydrogen project agreement among PT SMI, PT PLN, and HDF focused on Eastern Indonesia.

Bank Indonesia and Banque de France also formalized cooperation, reinforcing financial collaboration as part of the strategic deliverables.

This comprehensive set of agreements underlines the strengthening of Indonesia–France relations, expanding cooperation from diplomacy and defense to energy, culture, and sustainable development.
