The government has prepared for tariff negotiations with the U.S. as a delegation from Indonesia consisting of ministers and high-ranking officials will meet with U.S. representatives to discuss the issue on April 16-23, 2025.

"Several ministers, and also Chairman of the Financial Services Authority (OJK), have been assigned by the President. So we will meet with the United States Trade Representative (USTR), the Secretary of Commerce, the Secretary of State, and the Secretary of Treasury," Airlangga said on Monday, April 14, 2025.

He added that Foreign Minister Sugiono had left earlier to prepare for the meeting on Monday, April 14, 2025. Meanwhile, other team members will leave on Tuesday, April 15, 2025.

Airlangga, who is also part of the team, will fly with Deputy Chair of the National Economic Council (DEN) Mari Elka Pangestu, as well as Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani Indrawati and Deputy Minister of Finance Thomas Djiwandono who will also attend the IMF-World Bank Spring Meeting in Washington DC, U.S.

According to him, Indonesia is one of the countries that got the first opportunity to be invited to Washington. This meeting is also the result of the Indonesian government's efforts in writing to the U.S. some time ago to discuss trade tariffs.

Airlangga cited that the government in this negotiation will convey a number of offers to the U.S. One of them is regarding the deregulation of export-import policies and the ease of investment by Indonesian companies to the U.S. and vice versa.

The Indonesian government will also offer efforts to balance the trade balance deficit. This is done by targeting additional imports from the U.S. to reach US$18-19 billion (Rp302.5 trillion).

"So we have prepared a relatively complete non-paper, both those related to tariffs, related to non-trade measures or non-tariff barriers, and also related to investment," Airlangga noted.
