Prabowo to go on a Middle East diplomacy tour to support Gaza evacuation plan

Prabowo
President Prabowo Subianto has planned to go on a diplomacy tour to five Middle Eastern countries − the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Turkiye, Egypt, Qatar and Jordan − in search of support for Indonesia's plan to evacuate 1,000 Palestinians in Gaza to Indonesia.
The visit will begin with a departure to Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE), on Wednesday, April 9, 2025. The president will be accompanied by Minister of Foreign Affairs Sugiono and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.
Prabowo said that this evacuation plan will be carried out if it gets the green light from all parties, especially countries that are actively helping Palestinians in Gaza. According to him, this evacuation scheme is only temporary until the conditions in Gaza recover.
"If the conditions in Gaza allow, they must return to their area of origin. I think that is the attitude of the Indonesian government. For that, I have to consult with the leaders of the [Middle East] region," Prabowo said on Wednesday, April 9, 2025.
He admitted that he deliberately came to the five countries to consult with their leaders on the proposed scheme, while citing that he continuously received calls from foreign envoys asking about Indonesia's readiness to help the situation in Gaza.
"This is something complicated, which is not easy. But Indonesia is committed to supporting the safety of the Palestinian people, supporting the Palestinian independence. I think this encourages the Indonesian government to play a more active role," Prabowo said.
According to him, this plan is also in accordance with the request of the international community which considers Indonesia to play a more active role. Given that Indonesia is a non-aligned country and a country with the largest Muslim population in the world.
According to him, Indonesia is ready to accommodate approximately 1,000 Palestinians in Gaza for the first phase of evacuation plan, especially for those who are injured, traumatized and orphaned.
"We are ready to send planes to transport them. We estimate the number will be 1,000 for the first phase," the President said.
He, however, maintained that the plan will still be discussed further with the Palestinian Government. He has instructed Foreign Minister Sugiono to discuss the issue with the Palestinian side.
Prabowo will first meet with the President of the UAE, Mohammed bin Zayed Al-Nahyan. Then he will fly to Turkiye to meet President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and attend the Antalya Diplomacy Forum as well as being a speaker at the Leader's talk session.
Prabowo and his limited entourage will then head to Cairo to consult with Egyptian President Abdul Fattah El-Sisi. Afterwards, he will head to Doha, Qatar to meet Emir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani.
During his visit to Qatar, a bilateral agreement will be produced by signing a number of strategic agreements for the two countries. Then, he will end his foreign visit by visiting Jordan for a state visit.
