Attorney General Sanitiar Burhanuddin has emphasized that Pertamina's products in circulation meet specifications, a stark contrast to the findings by current corruption investigation into an alleged mismanagement of crude oil and refinery products at the State energy company, its subholdings and contractors during the 2018-2023 period.

"The condition of Pertamax fuel currently circulated in the market is good and meets the established standards," Burhanuddin said to the visiting Pertamina President Director, Simon Aloysius Mantiri, at the Main Building of the Attorney General's Office (AGO) in Jakarta, on Thursday, March 6, 2025.

The meeting discussed progress of the investigation into alleged corruption in the management of crude oil and refinery products at PT Pertamina (Persero), including in subholdings and Oil and Gas Contractors (KKKS) in the period of 2018 to 2023.

Burhanuddin added that the fuel currently marketed by Pertamina is in accordance with the specifications and is not related to the legal case being handled.

Burhanuddin cited that based on garnered facts, Pertamina’s subholding for commercial and trading PT Pertamina Patra Niaga is known to have purchased and paid for fuel with Research Octane Number (RON) 92, but what was received was fuel with RON 88 or RON 90.

The fuel is then stored at the Merak Orbit Terminal (OTM) before being blended and distributed to the public.

"This action was carried out by a handful of individuals who have now been declared suspects and detained," he said, while emphasizing that the act was not related to the official policy of PT Pertamina.

He emphasized that law enforcement in this case is a synergy between the AGO and PT Pertamina in an effort to realize better corporate governance in accordance with the principles of Good Corporate Governance.

"There has been no intervention in the handling of this case. It’s purely a a form of law enforcement to support the Government's Asta Cita towards Golden Indonesia 2045 Vision," he said.

Currently, investigators are focusing on resolving the case and working with financial experts to calculate the real State losses from the case.

Burhanuddin appealed to the public to remain calm and not be influenced by false issues. He asked for public support for Pertamina and the Attorney General's Office in efforts to improve governance in the State-owned Enterprise.

Pertamina President Director, Simon Aloysius Mantiri, appreciated the measures taken by the Attorney General's Office in handling this case.

"This is a moment for the ranks within PT Pertamina to improve and enhance corporate governance," he said.

He also ensured that the quality of fuel circulating in all Gasoline Stations (SPBU) has undergone routine annual tests by Lemigas together with Downstream Business Entities, including Pertamina.

"The test results show that Pertamina's fuel has met the technical specification standards set by the Directorate General of Oil and Gas, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources," he said.
