The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has detained Hasto Kristiyanto, Secretary General of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), over a corruption case surrounding the change of House of Representatives (DPR) membership as a result of the 2019 legislative election.
"For the purposes of the investigation, detention [on Hasto] is carried out for 20 days from February 20, 2025 to March 11, 2025," KPK chairman Setyo Budiyanto said on Thursday, February 20, 2025.
Setyo said that Hasto arranged and controlled his staff Donny Tri Istiqomah (DTI) to lobby Wahyu Setiawan, then commissioner at the General Elections Commission (KPU), so that Harun Masiku could be appointed as a PDI-P candidate for the House membership elected from the First South Sumatra Electoral District (Dapil Sumsel I).
Hasto is also suspected of arranging and controlling DTI to actively take and deliver bribe money to be handed over to Wahyu Setiawan through a middlewoman, Agustiani Tio Fridelina.
"Hasto allegedly bribed Wahyu Setiawan and Agustiani Tio Fridelina amounting to SG$19,000 and US$38,350 on December 16, 2019 to December 23, 2019 so that Harun Masiku could be appointed as a DPR member for the 2019-2024 period from the First South Sumatra Electoral District," Setyo said.
KPK investigators have also named Hasto as a suspect in the obstruction of justice case.
Upon being named as a suspect, Hasto then filed a pre-trial lawsuit with the South Jakarta District Court.
However, the South Jakarta District Court has also rejected Hasto's lawsuit. Hasto filed a new pre-trial motion a few days ago.
