The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) is in need of US$1.1 trillion (Rp16,260 trillion) in investment to realize the national electricity general plan (RUKN) to establish a majority of new and renewable energy (EBT)-generated power plants by 2060.

Yuliot Tanjung, Deputy ESDM Minister, said that the current funding is allocated for transmission and electricity needs.

"The investment is meant to meet the electricity needs of around US$1 trillion and for transmission installation of US$104 billion," Yuliot said on Thursday, January 23, 2025.

The total investment will cover funding for various types of power plants, ranging from coal, gas, diesel, geothermal, bioenergy, water, wind, solar, nuclear, ocean, pump storage, energy storage systems (ESS), ammonia (nh3) and hydrogen (h2).

RUKN was previously stipulated in the Decree of the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources No. 314.K/TL.01/MEM.L/2024, which was issued on Friday, November 29, 2024. Yuliot said that the projected amount of investment needed for RUKN reaches US$30 billion (Rp487.8 trillion) per year.

However, the previous RUKN was prepared for the period 2019-2038. Yuliot said that it was necessary to adjust the RUKN by considering government targets such as the national economic growth target and the energy mix target for power plants. Then, the government prepared and determined the RUKN 2025-2060 which was an update of the RUKN 2019-2038.

"RUKN contains the National Electricity Information Policy, National Electricity Information Provision Conditions, Projections of National Electricity Needs and Adjustments until 2060, and the National Electricity Supply System Development Plan," Yuliot said.
