Deputy Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Yuliot Tanjung, says that Indonesia will utilize its BRICS membership to export mining products, especially to China and India, Antara reported.
BRICS, a multidisciplinary strategic partnership that stands on three pillars: political-security, economic-financial, cultural, and humanitarian relations, comprises Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, and the United Arab Emirates.
"We can utilize BRICS members for our markets such as India and China; they have large populations with large potential," Yuliot said, on Wednesday, January 8, 2025.
However, he said that he is still studying the likely impact of Indonesia's official BRICS membership on domestic mining. He assured that the membership was based on comprehensive considerations.
Indonesia officially became a member of the bloc following the announcement on January 6, 2025 by Brazil, as the holder of the BRICS presidency this year.
The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday, January 7, 2025 welcomes the full BRICS membership and is committed to actively contributing to the organization's agenda to tackle global challenges, such as climate change, food security, and public health, as well as realizing a more inclusive and equitable global order.
According to the ministry, Indonesia's involvement in BRICS reflects the country's increased active role in the global area and the momentum to increase multilateral cooperation.
