Luhut discusses global economy, business with world’s biggest hedge fund founder

Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan met with Ray Dalio, a philanthropist and founder of the biggest hedge fund in the world, in Bali on Sunday, September 1, 2024.

Luhut said that he discussed global economic and business issues with Ray, who is in Indonesia to speak at the 2024 Indonesia-Africa Forum (IAF) that is held on September 1-3 , 2024 in Bali.

“He [Ray Dalio] will share his view on the change in the future global economy. He has been actively sharing his views on global economic development in various forums, and has become an advisor for policy makers in several countries, such as United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia,” he said.

Luhut cited that his encounter with Ray started from the delivery of Ray’s own Ocean X exploration and scientific research ship in May 2024. Ocean X ran an exploration mission in order to collect data on Indonesia marine biodiversity as well as for the protection from future natural disasters.

He added that during the meeting, Ray also introduced his view on family office, a term for a private entity established by a wealthy family to manage their investments, assets, overall wealth, privacy protection, and ensure the financial well-being of family members.

Ray is considered as having experience in developing family office in Abu Dhabi and Singapore.

In addition to wealth management, Luhut also discussed with Ray about global collaboration and dedication on knowledge on new opportunities.

“I hope the discussion can motivate us as government to prioritize innovation, which is needed in order to create better future for the next generation,” Luhut said.
