Indonesia–France defense industry seminar strengthens strategic cooperation

The 6th Seminar for Small and Medium-Sized Defense Companies, jointly organized by the French Directorate General of Armaments and Indonesia’s Ministry of Defense, was held on November 24–25, 2025 at the Ministry of Defense headquarters in Jakarta, bringing altogether more than 60 French and Indonesian defense companies.

The seminar opened with remarks by Director of Defense Technology and Industry at the Indonesian Ministry of Defense, Air Commodore Dedy Laksmono, and French Ambassador to Indonesia, Timor-Leste, and ASEAN, Fabien Penone.

In his opening address, Ambassador Penone highlighted several ongoing bilateral collaboration programs that strengthen both nations’ strategic autonomy and defense industrial sovereignty.

Held biennially since 2014, the seminar featured strategic presentations, industry discussions, and Business-to-Business (B2B) sessions, organized into four main clusters:

• Land Systems & Ammunition;

• Naval & Maritime Systems;

• Aeronautics, Drones & Space;

• Electronics, Sensors & Defense Technologies.

The event drew participation from multiple Indonesian and French defense stakeholders, including representatives from the French Embassy, Direction générale de l'armement (DGA), Groupement des Industries Françaises de Défense et de Sécurité Terrestres et Aéroterestres (GICAT), Groupement des Industries de Construction et Activités Navales (GICAN), defense experts, the Indonesian Ministry of Defense, the Indonesian Military (TNI), the National Police (POLRI), defense agencies, industry associations, and the research and technology sector.

This seminar marked a concrete step forward in enhancing strategic collaboration, boosting technology transfer, and advancing opportunities for joint development between the two countries’ defense industries.

The program concluded with strong engagement from all participants and the signing of the Minutes of Meeting by the heads of both delegations, reaffirming continued cooperation in future initiatives.

    Prabowo Subianto Djojohadikusumo

    Prabowo Subianto Djojohadikusumo was born in Jakarta on the 17th of October 1951 to a distinguished family. Djojohadikusumo is the current Minister of Defence. His father, Prof. Dr Soemitro Djojohadikusumo was a famous Indonesian economist as well as the architect of the economic plan for the New Order. Soemitro was also a Minister of Trade and Industry and Minister of Finance during Soekarno’s era and a Minister of Trade and Minister of Research during Soeharto’s era. His grandfather, Margono Djojohadikusumo was one of the founders of Bank Negara Indonesia (BNI). He is the youngest of 4, and his brother, Hashim Sudjono Djojohadikusumo, is an Indonesian conglomerate. He was married to Siti Hediati Hariyadi, the daughter of Soeharto, Former President of Indonesia from 1983 to 1998. He is a father to his son, Ragowo Hediprasetyo as known as Didiet, who currently lives in Paris, France as a designer.
