President Prabowo, King Abdullah II discuss Mideast dynamics, Gaza peace efforts
President Prabowo Subianto and King Abdullah II of Jordan held a bilateral meeting at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Friday, November 14, 2025, particularly discussing the evolving situation in the Middle East.
Foreign Minister Sugiono cited that both leaders discussed diplomatic coordination regarding developments in the Gaza Strip. He emphasized that Indonesia continues to maintain close communication with countries surrounding Palestine, particularly Jordan, in pursuit of peace in Gaza.
“We conveyed that we will continue coordinating with countries around Palestine, especially Jordan,” Sugiono said after the bilateral meeting concluded. He added that Indonesia remains in active talks with other nations near Palestine. “To determine the final decision, everything is still under coordination,” he noted.
President Prabowo previously said that Indonesia had been asked to participate in peace efforts in Gaza. He conveyed this upon returning from the Gaza Peace Summit in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, on October 14, 2025.
He revealed that four mediator countries − the United States, Turkey, Qatar, and Egypt − had requested Indonesia’s readiness to help oversee a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas.
“They asked about Indonesia’s readiness. We said we are ready. If peacekeeping troops are needed, Indonesia is prepared,” Prabowo said at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base in East Jakarta on November 14, 2025.
The Indonesian president noted that deploying Indonesian peacekeeping forces to Gaza will require further negotiation. However, he reaffirmed Indonesia’s commitment to contributing actively to peace efforts in the Middle East.
“We will now discuss the details. This is complicated and not easy. But we’ve started working,” he said.
