PT Barito Renewables Energy (BREN), a renewable energy company owned by tycoon Prajogo Pangestu, has allocated a capital expenditure (capex) of US$250 million (Rp4.17 trillion) for next year.

BREN Director Hsing Chee Shiam said the allocation represents a significant increase from this year’s US$100 million, reflecting the company’s expanding portfolio and asset development plans.

“This relates to our planned activities and the assets and units we own,” Shiam said during a virtual public presentation on Tuesday, November 11, 2025.

President Director Tan Hendra Soetjipto announced that BREN aims to reach a total power generation capacity of 2,300 MW by 2032. The company is pursuing this goal through the execution of four key strategic projects:

1. Wayang Windu Unit 3 Project, expected to add over 30 MW, targeted for completion in Q4 2026.

2. Salak Unit 7 Project, projected to contribute more than 40 MW, also set to finish in Q4 2026.

3. Wayang Windu Units 1 and 2 Retrofit, expected to add 18.4 MW, scheduled for completion in Q4 2025.

4. Darajat Unit 3 Retrofit, which will add over 7 MW, slated for completion in 2026.

Currently, BREN operates three geothermal assets − Wayang Windu, Salak, and Darajat − with a total installed capacity of 710 MW, making the company the national leader in the geothermal energy sector.

Hendra also highlighted progress at the Hamiding geothermal project in North Halmahera Regency, North Maluku, which has a potential capacity of 275–550 MW.

Through its subsidiary Star Energy Geothermal, BREN has completed road construction, supporting infrastructure, and bridge works to facilitate drilling operations.

“Our target is to complete well drilling. We have just finished the first well,” Hendra said.

The company began exploration drilling at the site on October 18, 2025, marking the start of one of eastern Indonesia’s most strategic geothermal exploration areas. Following the first drilling phase, BREN plans to conduct well tests in December to assess the reservoir’s production potential. The second well is also under drilling and is expected to be completed around the same time.

“In the next phase, we will proceed with well testing for the second well,” Hendra said.

In the initial stage, BREN targets the construction of a 50 MW geothermal power plant, part of a potential 300 MW installed capacity. The project is expected to support Indonesia’s national energy mix and contribute to the country’s clean energy transition.

Drilling operations use a 1,500 HP Drilling Rig 253, designed to penetrate complex geological formations and reach the target geothermal reservoir depth. All activities are conducted under strict safety standards, with attention to environmental protection and local community empowerment.
