PT Rukun Raharja (RAJA), an affiliate of Happy Hapsoro − businessman and husband of House of Representatives (DPR) Speaker Puan Maharani − is exploring a liquefied natural gas (LNG) project in Banten, potentially along with PT Chandra Daya Investasi (CDIA) and PT Krakatau Steel.

PT Rukun Raharja is an Indonesian publicly listed company specializing in integrated energy solutions, encompassing both upstream and downstream sectors. Established on December 24, 1993, the company initially operated in real estate before transitioning into the energy sector in 2010. Its core business includes gas infrastructure, gas trading, power generation, and upstream energy.

“We cannot operate in isolation from the existing ecosystem. Companies like Chandra Asri and Krakatau Steel are major gas consumers and already our clients,” Djauhar Maulidi, CEO of Rukun Raharja, said during a virtual public presentation on Monday, October 27, 2025.

Currently, RAJA serves as a gas supplier to both companies, and this partnership is expected to continue. The company is finalizing the investment scope, commercial structure, and permits for the LNG project.

“The LNG project is a long-term initiative, so we need off-takers with stable gas demand,” Ogi Rulino, Director of RAJA, said. “Our collaboration will focus on the industrial sector, which remains the largest consumer of gas.”

CDIA’s industrial and energy ecosystem

CDIA operates through subsidiaries in four main business pillars: energy, logistics, port and storage, and water services. Many of these activities are linked to the Barito Group ecosystem.

Through PT Krakatau Chandra Energi (KCE), CDIA supplies electricity to the Krakatau Industrial Zone (KIK) in Cilegon, Banten, serving industrial, residential, and government customers. KCE operates multiple power facilities including a 120 MW combined-cycle gas power plant (PLTGU), a 2.2 MWp solar plant, and a medium- to low-voltage distribution network.

Together with Krakatau Posco, KCE operates a 200 MW PLTGU using off-gas as fuel. The company is also developing the electric vehicle ecosystem by providing charging stations (SPKLU) at strategic locations.

In logistics, CDIA subsidiaries such as PT Chandra Shipping International (CSI) and PT Marina Indah Maritim operate seven specialized vessels for chemical and gas transport, while partner entity SBL manages 155 land transport trucks for warehousing, transport, and export-import services.

For storage and port services, PT Redeco Petrolin Utama (RPU) provides docks capable of handling up to 35,000 DWT and 72 storage tanks totaling 130,000 m³, with digital order and pickup systems to improve efficiency.

In the water sector, CDIA, through PT Krakatau Tirta Industri (KTI), supplies and manages clean water in Cilegon and Gresik with a total treatment capacity exceeding 3,400 liters per second, while developing demineralization, recycling, and wastewater treatment using advanced technologies such as membranes, ultrafiltration, and biological treatment to support industrial and community needs.
