Nusantara hosts global forum on just energy transition toward greener future
The Nusantara Capital City (IKN) Authority hosted the International Capacity Development Program (ICDP) for Coal Regions in Transition, an initiative aimed at supporting a global shift toward more sustainable and Earth-friendly energy systems.
Held at Swissotel Nusantara on Thursday, October 16, 2025, the event carried the theme “Just Energy Transition” and included a field visit to the Nusantara Solar Power Plant (PLTS Nusantara).
The program was organized by the German Corporation for International Cooperation (GIZ) in collaboration with Indonesia’s Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) and National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas).
A total of 43 international delegates from countries such as Chile, Colombia, South Africa, Thailand, Vietnam, Germany, Mongolia, and Kazakhstan participated in the program. The ICDP aims to strengthen the capacity of coal-producing regions to transform toward green and sustainable economies through training and the sharing of global best practices in achieving a just and inclusive energy transition.
Deputy for Green and Digital Transformation of the Nusantara Capital Authority, Agung Indrajit, emphasized that IKN’s development vision aligns with global energy transition goals promoted through the ICDP.
“We target 100 percent of Nusantara’s energy needs to be supplied from renewable sources, achieve up to 60 percent energy efficiency through conservation, and realize net zero emissions (NZE) by 2045 across 256,000 hectares of IKN’s area,” Agung said on Thursday, October 16, 2025.
Phillip Schattenmann, Commission Manager of GIZ-IKI JET Global, expressed appreciation for IKN’s hospitality and underscored the event’s importance for coal-producing nations.
“We thank Nusantara for the warm welcome. This is the right time to exchange ideas on how the world can move away from coal toward cleaner and more sustainable energy,” he said.
Marietta Toro, International Affairs Advisor at Colombia’s Ministry of Mines and Energy, praised IKN as a tangible model of a sustainable future city.
“Nusantara is an outstanding example of how a smart city concept can go hand in hand with environmental commitment,” she noted.
As a new capital city envisioned as a “World-Class City for All”, Nusantara continues to strengthen partnerships with international stakeholders to advance its transformation into a smart city, forest city, and sponge city.
Support from the global community reaffirms Nusantara’s role as a living laboratory for sustainable urban development − a model that can inspire cities worldwide in their journey toward a greener future.
