Indonesia prepares peacekeeping troops as Gaza truce talks enter security phase
Amid ceasefire efforts between Hamas and Israel, discussions on a long-term peace framework have entered a crucial phase − the potential deployment of international peacekeeping forces to stabilize Gaza.
U.S. officials confirmed that discussions have progressed on the deployment of international peacekeeping troops, one of 20 points in Trump’s proposed Gaza peace framework. Two senior American advisers said several countries had expressed willingness to contribute personnel.
The United States has pledged 200 troops to support the force without stationing them directly in Gaza. Other countries reportedly ready to participate include Indonesia, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Qatar, and Azerbaijan.
In Jakarta, President Prabowo Subianto has ordered the Indonesian Military (TNI) to begin preparing a contingent for potential peacekeeping duties in Gaza.
The directive was issued during a closed-door meeting at his private residence on Sunday, October 12, 2025 prior to his departure to Cairo for the International Summit on Gaza Peace on October 13.
“If the negotiations result in a constructive agreement, it is possible that Indonesia will be asked to take part in the peacekeeping mission,” Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi told the media after the meeting.
“The President has conveyed that if peace is achieved and Indonesia is invited to participate, we will be ready. The Deputy Commander of the TNI was present to begin preparations,” Prasetyo added.
The ceasefire talks, facilitated under the U.S.-brokered peace proposal by President Donald Trump, were tense as both sides struggle to uphold commitments in the initial phase of the ceasefire. Israel has threatened to resume military operations and restrict humanitarian aid if Hamas fails to comply with the agreed terms.
According to the fourth clause of Trump’s proposal, all hostages both living and deceased must be returned within 72 hours of Israel’s acceptance of the deal. While Hamas has released several living hostages since October 13, 2025, it has faced difficulties recovering bodies trapped under rubble, citing the need for specialized equipment.
Speaking to CNN on Wednesday, October 15, 2025 U.S. time, Trump warned that Israel could swiftly resume operations if Hamas falters. “Israel will go back to those streets as soon as I tell them. If Israel can go in and hit them hard, they will do it,” he said.
