The Indonesian Foreign Ministry has reiterated that the country will not recognize or normalize ties with Israel unless the latter first acknowledges the sovereignty and independence of Palestine.

“Indonesia’s position is very clear: there will be no recognition and normalization with Israel, either through the Abraham Accords or any other platform, unless Israel first recognizes an independent and sovereign Palestinian state,” Foreign Ministry spokesman, Yvonne Mewengkang, said on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, as quoted by Antara.

Yvonne stressed that the stance had been reaffirmed by Foreign Minister Sugiono, underlining that any vision regarding Israel must begin with recognition of Palestine’s independence.

The statement came in response to a billboard in Israel that recently went viral on social media featuring Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto alongside U.S. President Donald Trump, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, and several Arab leaders.

The billboard, posted by the account @AbrahamShield25, was part of a campaign by the Israeli Regional Security Coalition, urging the government to support Trump’s initiative to end the war in Gaza and expand the Abraham Accords.

The coalition, comprising more than 120 senior Israeli figures in security, policy, and business, described Trump’s proposal as a responsible step to turn Israel’s military gains into a strategic diplomatic breakthrough and to create a new reality in Gaza without Hamas.

Trump mentions Prabowo Subianto

U.S. President Donald Trump has unveiled a 20-point proposal aimed at ending the war in Gaza and rebuilding the Palestinian territory, claiming support from Muslim-majority nations and singling out President Prabowo Subianto in his remarks.

“President Prabowo. He is an outstanding leader, respected by everyone. He was in the room with us,” Trump said in a speech outlining Gaza’s post-war future, as quoted on Tuesday, September 30, 2025.

According to Trump, the plan has received backing from key countries surrounding Israel including Jordan, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Qatar as well as from other Arab and Muslim nations.

He specifically mentioned Pakistan and Indonesia, despite both countries not recognizing Israel.

“The Prime Minister of Pakistan (Shehbaz Sharif) and Field Marshal (Syed Asim Munir Ahmed Shah) support this 100 percent,” Trump said, as quoted by The Hill, on Monday, September 29, 2025.

As part of the plan, Trump said he would chair an international peace council tasked with overseeing Gaza’s governance transition and reconstruction financing. Under the framework, Gaza would gradually come under the control of the Palestinian Authority, while Israel would scale down its military presence.

“The council will enforce international best practices to create modern and efficient governance that serves the people of Gaza and attracts investment,” the proposal states.
