SIS Cilegon opens junior high school, bringing international education in North Banten
SIS Cilegon, part of the SIS Group of Schools, has officially inaugurated its new building while launching its Junior High School (SMP) level, marking a new milestone in expanding international-standard education in North Banten region.
The development makes SIS Cilegon the only Joint Cooperative School (SPK) school in the region, offering internationally affiliated education under formal approval from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology.
As part of the Cambridge International network, SIS Cilegon ensures global recognition for its academic programs, opening pathways for students to pursue education abroad.
“With the addition of the Junior High School, children in North Banten can now experience international education from early years through adolescence. Students will also have the advantage of connecting with peers from SIS schools across Indonesia and overseas,” SIS Cilegon Head Teacher, Eka Fidyanti Hariana, said during the inauguration ceremony on Thursday, Sept. 24, 2025.
Cilegon Mayor Robinsar, who officiated the opening by signing the inauguration plaque, voiced strong support for the school’s presence in the city.
“With numerous international industries from Korea, India, China, and the UK operating in Cilegon, enhancing the quality of our human resources is crucial.
We are grateful to SIS Cilegon for contributing directly to education by providing international-standard learning that will empower the younger generation to compete globally,” he said.
To expand access, SIS Cilegon has also introduced a merit-based scholarship program for students with academic and non-academic achievements.
With these initiatives, SIS Cilegon has positioned itself as a pioneer of international education in North Banten, equipping the younger generation with global competencies to thrive in an increasingly interconnected world
Alongside the inauguration, the school held a panel discussion titled “Digitally Smart or Digitally Addicted? Measuring the Role of AI in the Classroom.”
The session featured panelists including Humaedi, Secretary of the Cilegon City Education and Culture Office; Helena Widiarti, Program Director of AI & Robotics STEM at Prasetiya Mulya University; Eka Fidyanti Hariana; and SIS Cilegon parent representative Fauzy Syauki.
The panel addressed the growing role of Artificial Intelligence in education, a topic increasingly relevant as Indonesia promotes AI adoption through its National AI Strategy (2020–2045) and recent ethical guidelines from the Ministry of Communications and Informatics.
“In this fast-paced era, AI is one of the greatest innovations transforming education. At SIS Cilegon, we are deeply concerned about preparing our students for this future,” Eka said.
Equipped with modern facilities including interactive classrooms, science laboratories, libraries, and sports infrastructure, SIS Cilegon emphasizes digital literacy by introducing coding and robotics as early as kindergarten.
